Prolific Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen writes opera, symphonic work and concertos, chamber music and solo pieces like the enchanting Cadenze on Petteri Iivonen’s debut album Art of the Violin. Sallinen himself played both violin and piano well, and enjoyed both classical music and jazz as a young man. He attended the Sibelius Academy and subsequently taught there.
